Thursday 3 is back!!
Today’s topic--SELF IMPROVEMENT!
1) What one language would you most like to learn to speak, or at least understand?
I think I'd like to learn and/or understand Italian. I think it's a beautiful language and I'd love to visit there some day.
2) What one skill would you most like to learn?
I was originally going to say that I'd like to learn the skill of keeping my mouth shut but then I thought better of the idea. I usually think about keeping my mouth shut too but then I think better of THAT idea too. But I digress.
I think I'd like to learn to dance. I mean fun dancing, not ballet or clogging or anything. I'd like to really be able to go to a bar with a great dance floor and really cut a rug. I have rhythm and most of the time it's in synch with the song that's playing so I think I could do it. I just don't know the steps and don't seem to have time to learn.
3) What one character flaw would you most like to rid yourself of?
This would probably be right in line with that "keeping my mouth shut" skill I referred to earlier but I think I'll go with the procrastination flaw. I tend to get things started and then I procrastinate. I make up the excuse that I got it started and now I'm ......... waiting on something/someone, or I convince myself that it can wait or that I'm too busy. Like learning to dance. :
Well, I made it to New York from New Jersey but I'm here to tell you it was a tough day. I realize this doesn't suprise you after the time I've had thus far. I'm not a bit suprised either. I started out this morning from New Jersey at 10:30 am on what was supposed to be a 2 hour trip. (insert Gilligan's Island song here) Up I-95 north I go and the next mark I'm looking for is I-295 south. However, I-95 splits off. My great and glorious Yahoo directions make no mention of such a split. So, making a quick decision I took the one I thought best. I took the right fork. So I'm continuing on and have at least 20 miles before I think I'm supposed to come up on my I-295 split which means I have 20 miles to sit and stew over whether or not I had made the right choice. This would be a good time to mention the toll roads in New Jersey. I realize you have to have some money to make those roads so dang nice. But I'm here to tell you that $4.10 is just insane! Texas has potholes in their roads and we get around just fine! Ya'll need to learn to drive TRUCKS! Then you get over in to New York and just to get across the George Washington suspension bridge is $6!! That's literally higway robbery. Stop the insanity people that bridge isn't long enough to justify 6 bucks a car! So, as I was just mentioning.. I get to the George Washington bridge and hand the lady my 6 dollars. I ask her if this was the way to get to I-295 south. The only thing she would say to me was "I-95 North". I asked her twice. If I wasn't such a decent sort I'd have told her "Yes I realize I'm on I-95 north, you dimwit, thanks for saying so. Are you trying to tell me to stay on it and it'll get me to where I wanna go or are you refusing to give me directions???" But I just asked for my reciept (Yes, I started taking receipts when I started to realize how much this was costing me and I'll be sure to expense those when I get back!) and I went on my way. Thankfully I seen the I-295 exit and discovered I HAD made the right decision and I was still on track. So I get closer to Long Island. Or at least I suppose I was because that's where the Long Island Expressway is and that was in my directions. Well, that's where it came to a screeching halt. Traffic that is. Not going anywhere. So I start listening to the radio and apparently there is a tanker truck about 3 exit in front of me that had overturned spilling fuel onto the highway. Oh Great!! We moved only inches when we were able to move. At this point it was about 12:15 or so. I didn't get out of that and up to an exit until 4 pm. Yes I said 4!! I was in that car for 6 hours by the time I'd gotten to the office here in NY. Can you imagine?!?!? I'm am blessed tho. I know I am. I'm going to confess to you that I am. I had gum, I had a watered down coke and I had my book and my tylenol cold. I read my book and chewed my gum and popped my pills and I am still thanking God that I didn't have to go pee. However, he let me know that he'd been diligent enough when I did finally get to that exit becaues there was a Staples store right off the exit and I made a bee line to their potty! There were some people that didn't make it that long tho and I do have to say it's unfair to a woman to be put in this particular situation. There were men that would hop out of their trucks (lots of delivery trucks on that road today) and stride over to the trees on the side of the road and relieve themselves. I don't blame then tho. I woulda done the same thing if I was a guy and had to go after that dang long. I wish all the cops and people working those situation would think of us poor suckers sitting there with nowhere to go for that long. I'm sure they are hurrying to get those things cleared up but they were stuffing 5 lanes of traffic onto 1 off ramp. Maybe they shoulda bulldozed another trail through the median or something. That would've taken less time.
On to New Jersey!!
Well, I finally got that other site done and I'm now in Burlington NJ. Hopefully this one will go MUCH smoother. I was certainly concerned when I got here and the keyboard and mouse gave no response but after some wire changing (how it worked in the first place I don't know) we are up and going. Right now I'm smack dab in the middle of installing Windows server 2003. It seems happy enought but this server had a corrupt registry before and kept blue screening and rebooting itself. Hopefully a brand spanking new registry will put an end to that crap. Or, with my luck as it's going this weekend, the stupid thing will blue screen like the last one and I'll be here all night again!! Let's hope not.
And I forgot to mention that I woke up with a sore throat. The kind where you seem to have a raw spot in the top part of your throat and there's something there you can't swallow. No matter what you drink or how much of it you drink it won't go away. Hint: Tylenol Cold Severe Congestion doesn't do a thing for it!
Man! What a mess!
I don't think I've posted anything in a month! All kinds of things going on. From birthdays to school stuff to traveling for work. I've been so busy I don't know what to do with myself. I write to you today from cloudy, rainy Pennsylvania. I'm rebuilding their Windows 2000 server with 2003. The plan was to rebuild this one last night, drive to Burlington NJ and do theirs. Then drive to Jamesburg NJ and do theirs. Then drive to Melville NY and do theirs. Fly to Boston and do theirs and return home late Wed night. However, the last thing you want to see when you are reinstalling Windows server on a Domain Controller is the dreaded blue screen of death. Well I see it 3 times last night so today I'm starting all over. Hopefully I can finish this one in the next 8 hours and drive to NJ and get theirs done tonight. Wouldn't that be nice? Then my plans could stay the same and I could get home on time. Well it just errored on me again. Things just don't look good.
